Another Reflection...

Social media in libraries I think is the future. I think that, and I know I've said this before, but if we were to be able to upload videos and cds to the internet and rent them out like e- books I believe we would get a lot more interest from patrons. Particularly the younger generation, since they live on the internet. I think that this could create an entirely new way for libraries to share their technology and maybe teach some patrons about new technological advances. I did not really learn that much from this because most of it I have done before and both of my parents are computer engineers or programmers. But I think that it was a good idea to give a taste of how libraries can incorporate this technology into our system.

Another Pandora...

I chose Pandora for my social media site, mostly because I love the site. It allows you to connect with people of similiar music taste and look at what they play. It also does not ask you to make a playlist which I love and you can add variety and choose songs you like and do not like. Overall this is one of my favorite sites on the internet and I am pleased that they are now running it through Blu- Ray players, Wiis and X- Boxes now. :)

Another Wiki...

I added information to one of the resturaunt pages and I found it rather frustrating, because if you created a page you cannot delete it. I found it easier on the wikipedia site, which just might have been because it was larger and more public site than the one created for the library to practice on. Overall though, I find it interesting that you can put your two cents in pretty much anywhere on the internet now.

Another Podcast...

I listened to a couple podcasts and I have also listened to others not pretaining to libraries before and they have never really kept my interest. I feel like if I wanted to listen to someone talk I could listen to a teacher or friends. However I know several people that are religious followers of certain blogs and they make them a part of their weekly schedule like someone does with their favorite TV show. I think it just depends on the type of learner you are... If you are a visual you like TV more, if you learn by hearing things you tend to gravitate more towards podcasts, and if you are a reader then you are more interested in books. Some of the podcasts covered what was current in their library, and others spoke of the programs that they had intergrated into the library or ones that are currently in session. I think instrucional podcasts would be useful to our customers.

Another Hulu...

I have never really had much use for Hulu because I have always had Netflix, but for those who don't i know spent many an hour on Huly. However recently Hulu has begun to charge, which I believe will greatly decrease the number of visitors the site gets. I would assume it's because they are not recieving as much advertisement from the commerical breaks. Clips are nice because you can get a preview of the show you are about to view and if you're interesting in previewing a show you have never watched before it is a handy tool. Again I think that libraries would benefit uploading their movies online and allowing patrons to check them out online. Many people have their TVs connected to the internet now with Netflix and such, and I think that it is the next step we need to take to keep up with this technology age.

Another YouTube...

The videos I watched on YouTube were informative, but a bit boring. There needs to be a quality to the videos that draws a person in like an interesting song or such. However I find it interesting that the libraries are creating videos and channels to attract visitors and keep their patrons up to date on the going- ons in their libraries. I think instructional videos on how to work the eReader would be useful.

Another Music Stream & Sharing...

If I don't have my iTunes account up on my computer at home then I almost always have Pandora up. Pandora is a lot like the iTunes genius, but with a much wider range of artists than just your iTunes library. And it's a great way to find new artists. I think that all of these systems are making CDs obsolete and they are soon going to become like records and tapes... Outdated. I have noticed that it seems like CD collections in libraries are becoming smaller and smaller. I think there might be more of a future for libraries with CDs if they uploaded their CD and allowed patrons to check them out that way. Sort of like the eReaders.
